AI ad frequency caps: why an ad should not appear after every prompt

Showing an advertisement after every AI interaction would maximize interruption, not necessarily value. Frequency rules limit repeated exposure, protect the main task and keep reward estimates tied to a finite set of eligible events. They also explain why an enabled extension may correctly show no new ad.

Separate a fresh opportunity from a retained card

A new prompt can create an opportunity, but it does not guarantee a new advertisement. A retained sponsor line can remain after an answer ends until it is dismissed or the conversation changes. That visual persistence should not create additional billing or repeated rewards from the same served decision.

The current payidle.com implementation permits one decision per response and one active reservation per device. Successful qualifying views are subject to a cooldown, and the current daily cap is 20. These are centrally configured product rules, not a promise that every user will receive exactly that many ads or credits.

Account for the campaign side

An active advertiser still needs sufficient remaining and daily budget. Expired, paused or temporarily ineligible campaigns cannot serve simply because an AI response is generating. With only a few advertisers, repeating the same eligible message can occur; absence of variety is not evidence that targeting understands the conversation.

Higher bids influence selection among eligible campaigns, but they do not override user limits. A network should not extend a response, generate a prompt or put a card over a useful control to create more inventory. If no suitable opportunity is available, showing nothing is a valid product outcome.

Interpret a missing ad without chasing it

Check whether sponsored moments are paused, whether site permission exists and whether the browser is focused. Then consider a recent qualified view, the daily cap and available campaigns. A short response can end before the eligibility threshold even when a card appeared successfully.

For advertisers, frequency limits mean a budget is not a delivery forecast. For users, they mean multiplying a per-view share by every chat message overstates the potential total. Do not generate unnecessary requests to chase the limit. The product should fit the existing workflow, and reward calculations should be labeled with the assumptions that constrain them.

  • Distinguish retained cards from new eligible views.
  • Apply cooldown and daily caps to estimates.
  • Inspect campaign eligibility before increasing a bid.
  • Keep the AI task useful even when no ad is available.
